How it works
Write a letter to someone, somewhere in the world. Or open one from a stranger.
Who receives my letter?
A random reader. You don’t choose a person, and your name and email do not appear on the letter.
What can I write?
A thought, a small story, something you noticed, or a few kind words. Letters can be up to 5,000 characters. Leave out names, contact details and links. Read the writing guidelines.
How do I receive a letter?
Choose Read and open the community envelope. Signed-in readers can choose a language and select Receive a letter to open their personal daily mail. Choose a country is an optional filter.
Can I reply later?
Yes, when a letter allows a reply. Open it from your archive to send its one anonymous return letter, report it, or block its sender. Reply drafts stay in this tab until you send them or sign out.
Do I need an account?
You can write and open a community letter without one. Signing in is optional; it lets you receive daily mail and keep letters in a private archive.
Is it free?
Yes. You can send up to 5 letters a day. Signed-in readers can receive one letter a day. Daily allowances reset at midnight UTC.
Earned credits pay for optional country choices and stationery. They do not buy extra daily letters. Ads, paid credit packs, and Echo Letters are not available.
What if no letter is available?
Your daily allowance stays available. You can try again later or write a letter of your own.
